ethylene glycol is more thermally conductive than PG
Dowfrost is a PG, Dowtherm is EG both are used in hydronics. EG is a bit more toxic.
EG is used when there is no potential for contact with potable water. Skating rinks, large chilled water systems for example
Automotive glycols containe silicates which can sludge a hydronic system. Do not use automotive PG or EG in hydronics
Do not use RV antifreeze, no inhibitors
Always label the system indicating the type of fluid and the date.

Yes, you need to supply and install a pump on the boiler loop, as per the installation manual. I don't see an internal pump?
Check your manual to confirm.

the change in voltage is how they get around goverment regulations . not suppossed to use an 80 gallon in residental homes i believe

Shut it off and don't run it until you get the water flow issue resolved. 245 is way too hot.
You're going to damage something if you haven't already done that.

Does your boiler have a built in pump? Quick google of diagrams show external primary pump.

Well… I believe I am looking at the correct manual. Where is the Boiler pump in your install ? It acts like there is no water flow through the boiler. No boiler pump (circulator) #11 below.

I may be wrong but the lack of moisture and the cast appearing intact, it looks like a gas/burner explosion. Glad he survived.

You’d be crazy to try to clean. 1966 tank.
The sludge is probably the last thing keeping the tank from leaking.
