    13th? I can come down for one day, Bob -- not sure how much help I'll be, but I'd just like to meet some of the guys.

    Where is this in Sterling?

    I really wish I had the time to make the trip. Would love to do some pipe work! I can donate some $$ if it would help.

    Unfortunately I am on call that week but hope it works for others!

    I would also kick in a few $$ if someone would be kind enough to set up a donation account.

    You fellows donating your time and effort really deserve a lot of credit for your extreme generosity by helping a complete stranger. I'm sure it will not go unnoticed by the big guy upstairs :)

    I can come with two - four men on Thursday, two weeks from today. We'll work Friday and Saturday and return on Sunday. I'll bring my pickup with a trailer with threaders, tools, etc.

    Will that work for any/everyone else?

    Bob that's awesome. That would work for me. @EzzyT ?

    @MichelleLe1 why don't you set up a paypal link so anyone that wants to can throw in a few bucks? Could take the edge off the parts or cover some of the costs for guys like Bob who are coming from afar?

    If we can make this happen based on everyone’s availability would everyone be ok if I took the lead ? Nothing to do about ego or showing off, I just love and live for this stuff.

    I don't think you'll get any objections.

    @MichelleLe1 I think your contractor who installed the boiler should flip the bill on the materials and I’ll even chip in the offset for doing a drop header

    We really need to get someone on site to draw it up.

    That "spider connection" needs to go and be replaced with one or two mains.

    When this is complete, will there be a video of the change out?
    Perhaps time lapse shooting from tear out to skimming.

    This seems a good opportunity in several respects;
    Good PR for all who help out.
    Good PR for product suppliers who donate materials.
    Good promotion for retaining and repairing of existing steam systems.
    Good to produce a Utube showing how not to install steam piping and how to choose a reputable steam contractor.

    And it all started with Heating Help.Com/the wall.
    Good PR there also. :)

    Wish I could attend.

    I wonder if there are any videographers hanging around here that could do the video? I know it can get in the way of the work, but it is a damn good idea.

    Well said, Rob. You guys really are the best.

    Unfortunately I can't make it up to CT to lend a hand, but please take a lot of before and after photos and a photo of the group with Michelle and I'll write an article about it.

    @Sailah,
    Would it be in your wheelhouse to contact Velocity and see if they would donate the piping kit? I'm sure you would know how to show them that this would be good publicity for them.

    I certainly would be willing to do so. Ezzy told me he would prefer to do a drop header and pipe it the way he does his great installs.

    Once we have a shopping list of parts I can ask Granite Group and FW Webb if there's interest in support on hard parts.

    Another option is SupplyHouse.com. I don't know if I have any current contacts but I can ask.

    Let me gauge the interest and I'll report back.

    What about Ct regulations and Licensing requirements?
  • Sailah
    Sailah Member Posts: 826
    Don't know the answer to that, maybe we could have original contractor step in for that or possible since this is a volunteer effort and no one is getting paid? But good point that I hadn't considered.

    Do we even know if a permit was pulled in the first place? Is a permit required in that area?

    I have a Connecticut E1 electrical contractor and a Connecticut S1 Heating Piping Cooling contractors license covers oil burners, gas burners and all steam and water piping, refrigeration , boilers, piping etc everything EXCEPT plumbing.

    Ct would normally require a permit.

    Since it doesn't look like I can make it the week that's being planned the best bet is probably having the original installer cover this. But I will stay in contact with this thread to see what develops

    I wish I could help with this! Unfortunately a plane ticket from CO is not in the cards right now, but if it was, I would be there in a heartbeat. You guys rock! I will meet some of you one of these days...Best of luck (not that you guys need it) and lets see some pictures!

    As of right now, then plan is to get there on Thursday, the 13th and begin work the following morning going through Saturday, the 15th.

    EzzyT is gonna try and get there early enough that Thursday to get it drawn up so we can have supplies there to start the next morning. He and Peter are coordinating the details.

    There's still room for anyone else who could help.

    I haven't gotten the address yet. We'll p/m or text it to everyone coming when we get it.

    @MichelleLe1,
    We need you to confirm that these dates are good and p/m myself, Peter or EzzyT with your contact info, please.

    Just an update.

    Looks like plans are slowly getting in line for Dec 13-14th although we aren't set in stone.

    I went to FW Webb hat in hand and they have graciously offered to assist with hard parts so Ezzy & Bob are coming up with a wish list.

    Huge preliminary thanks to FW Webb for stepping up and assisting. They are a stellar company and I always enjoyed working with their local sales people when I was at Barnes & Jones.

    Looks like things are coming together. If you'd like to attend send me a PM so we can coordinate.

    Thx

    Hi,

    I have a list of parts. I think a great way to accept donations would be to have a look at the list, choose whatever you want to donate, order from your favorite place (Like FW Webb & SupplyHouse.com!!!!) and then write your name in column B

    In order to facilitate ordering, please PM me and I will send you shipping instructions as I'd rather not post that.
