Re: The Philosopher’s Wrench
My dad hated a harness.
I remember him complaining about them when I was a kid. Those and something he called an acid suit.

Re: Just to stir the pot...
The horse and carriage was replaced -- eventually -- by the automobile, because the automobile was accessible to more people and was desirable to them. Nobody mandated the replacement from Olympus (or Washington or Albany or Sacramento or wherever). There's a difference.Asbestos, lead paint was made to be illegal in many products. Opioids were made illegal in old remedies/snake oil. Was there an effort to preserve those jobs? Or did those companies and employees have to find other ways to make money?

Re: Just to stir the pot...
I’d start a new thread @seized123. You can also google “idronics journal air to water heat pumps” and find an amazing resource caleffi has published

I do apologize for starting this thread

Is your building in Scotland? I'm sure you read my post, but seriously, read it again with fresh eyes and I think you'll see it's not that bad.

Re: Just to stir the pot...
I still shake my head when I see the air to air heat pumps my brothers installed to heat thier apartments and condominiums and all the heat pumps that have been installed in our area.
The first winter after these units were installed we had weeks of below freezing/below zero weather with no snow and the tenants/condo owners were freezing and the tenants/owners had to buy electric heaters to heat thier apartment's and condominiums.

Re: Just to stir the pot...
Scotland is a great place to mandate heat pumps. As has been mentioned, it's a very temperate climate.
Heat pumps are so efficient that resistive electrical assistive heating when required makes the overall calculation still be a winner.
It is a 100% certainty that over time, heat pumps will perform better in even colder temperatures.
It makes perfect sense for countries or municipalities in these temperate zones to incentivize or even mandate replacing 70-80% efficient heating with 300%+ efficient heating.
70-80% efficient heating with 300%+ efficient heating......
Very misleading numbers Paul and you know that.
You're about as misleading as a 6HP shopvac.

Re: Charging What??!!
The answer is simple - Swift has sold her soul to the devil. Now I know what you're thinking - "but Max, Swift has no discernible talent. Her "songs" are garbage and her voice is worse than you will hear at any high school show". I got you on this but here's the explanation:
In the old days, when someone sold their soul to the devil, the devil gave the performer amazing and legendary talent. That was difficult to accomplish but he found out it's a lot easier to fool the masses into thinking this no talent is talented. There's an old expression - "the masses are asses".
There you go. You're welcome and say a prayer for humanity.

Charging What??!!
I watched last weekend as Taylor Swift did two shows at Lumen Field in Seattle and sold out both shows. Each show had over 80,000 attendees. The 2 shows netted over 1.5 billion in gross revenues, including $975 million in merchandise. Tee shirts were $200. and hoodies, $500. I'm not sure why teenage girls have so much angst to spend so much and worship her, but she's approaching the Beatles in record sales. I have one friend, a retired Microsoft engineer who was willing to spend $2000. for a ticket and couldn't get one. Lastly, when she did "Shake it Up", the seismologists at UW recorded a 2.3 on the Richter scale, which beats Marshawn Lynch's Beast Quake touchdown which recorded a 2.1.
I'd recommend all plumbers wear sequined overalls and double their prices.

Re: Best Spray Paint for Old Radiators.....again
@AdmiralYoda We got one of our rads professionally sandblasted, primed and painted with Rustoleum Stops Rust clean metal primer and semi gloss white enamel respectively. The shop did a great job, looks good….but stank for 3 months. I would absolutely avoid the engine enamel for that reason.
