I am having exact same issue. Did you figure out the solution?
My laars boiler is only 2 ys old. The system gets locked out(shutdown) with error code 44 every morning (twice daily when temp <35F) and i need to manually restart it again. My plumber made 7-8 visits but hasnt been able to figure out. We have replaced Air pressure sensor(APS), and main controller board last year and again this year still the same issue has started to reoccur. Already replaced APS this year again but no luck.

Boiler crackling/popping - HELP
I have an old boiler (thought to be about 20 years old) planning on getting replaced within next few weeks so don't want to spend much to repair.
Has began making Kettling noises, and we have no hot water/heating and pressure has dropped low. Is it safe to just turn off and leave off til we have it replaced or is this an urgent thing that could be dangerous if left and needs to be looked at as soon as possible?
