Re: Eight down…
Just make sure that your loops are no longer than 250 ft for 1/2" PEX or 200 ft for 3/8" PEX. I have heard horror stories of someone putting a 1000 ft coil in the concrete back and forth from one end to the other in one very long loop. After the concrete was poured he had only two ends sticking out of the concrete. There was 1000 ft of unusable tubing in that slab. Now what?!?
Re: Eight down…
Well, that does put things in perspective. I may be covered in dirt with a tremendous task in front of me, but at least I'm not rushing to keep my mother warm during her last year. I will have a rosier outlook.
Hopefully, in a week, or so, I'll be back here desperately asking for help on how to fill my system with water and actually turn on my new boiler.

Re: vent damper question. Does it have to go vertical right off the top of the boiler?
........ The chimney sucks like a vacuum so maybe I'll try and get a draft reading for them to also consider.Just keep pets and small children away from it!

Throw that thing in the garbage and jump it out on the harness.
Done.
Done.

Re: Its on every plumbing exam.......
Does anyone else use the ♂ and ♀ characters? Mostly on copper pressure fittings. It took awhile, but most of the guys at the counter understand what I mean now.Aw jeez. Gender fittings.
c x ♂ union
c x ♀ x c tee
They're quick to write down when you're in a hurry.
We use cfc, and cmc.
Eight down…
only 292(ish) more to install.

So putting up aluminum plates sucks. I knew it wasn't going to be easy. I knew it was going to be quite a project. But, in practice, it's going much more slowly than I anticipated. Working around the conduit, wire, pipes, cross braces and then cutting all the nails is really slowing me down. It took me 75 minutes to put up eight plates. At this pace I'm looking at 45 more hours : (
And I'm filthy - just covered in dirt and dust that's remained undisturbed for nearly 100 years. I look like a grown-up, home-owning Pig-Pen - from the Peanuts, This must be why you pros have interns and apprentices.
Anyway, for once, I don't have any questions or concerns. I just felt like complaining.

Re: System 2000 leaking
OK,..I found the info on warranty on line,(I don't think it was ever given to me) anyway it says after the 25th year and above 75% of the trade list price. I know we are not supposed to talk money but without talking money prices ,.. what in the heck does that mean?
And is not the pressure vessel replaceable? Over the years a number of other components have been replaced,.
Doesn't seem like anyone wants to talk about the missing thing sited in the first conversation now that was said to contribute to its failure,
I suppose they don't want to get into it with the oil company.
AND they say under in the warranty sheet,.under EXCEPTIONS AND EXCLUSIONS: The warranty is subject to the condition that the residential boiler must have been installed and serviced in accordance with Energy Kinetics instructions ,..
and it does not assume any liability of any nature for unsatisfactory performance caused by improper installation.
But the only ones that can install this unit are certified factory trained people.
Sound like a bit of a weasel clause to me.

Re: Amateur hour
When I got my first job with a commercial/industrial boiler company in 1974, after working 6 years in residential, everything we threaded from 1/8" through 4" was done by hand. Then the company bought a used Ridgid 700 and after that I was spoiled. @EricPeterson that type pipe vise would work but you just need to upgrade to a chain vise to do a better job.
Re: Amateur hour
Who needs a ratchet. You don't need no stinkin' ratchet.
That is what pipe wrenches are for.

Re: New gas boiler efficiency standards how soon?
That news organization isn't known for their accurate reporting. They like to create panic for various reasons. You might want to check out other sources before making a decision.
