Re: YOU WANT TO HEAR A GOOD ONE?
Just got a private message and helped someone with thermostat wiring. Also programing the auto-changeover feature, which I recommend against. I thought it was for his own home, but it turns out that it was for his daughter's home. I found out from this last message:

I agree with you 100% that’s what I do in my home we are both old school however this is in my daughters home and told them the same thing as you suggested. They have a new baby and want to get the morning chill out of the house this time of year. I told them they can be lazy and control it from the app I guess we’ll never understand these millennials

LOL. Ok set it up for auto changeover and tell them to watch the electric bill.
I remember the first month after I installed central air conditioning in my home. We were in heaven. Then the electric bill showed up!!! My wife said that we needed to do something about the air conditioning.
I went from 70° to 73° right away. Two days later, I put the air conditioner on 74°. another two days passed and 75°. This continued every other day until my daughter, then 8 years old, asked me if there was something wrong with the air conditioner. By that time the thermostat was set at 79°. I explained what I was doing to everyone in the home. So we decided that since there were no complaints at 78°, that was going to be our homes normal summer temperature. 67° for our oil heat winter temperature and 78 was our summer time temperature. We still did the OFF in April, May, September and October. The electric bill and the oil usage was reasonable with those temperatures.
After they have the Auto Changeover for at least one energy bill cycle, then you can tell them my story. When they pay the bills, they can set the temperature where ever they want it.
I also went to my , then 23 years old, daughter's first home for a surprise visit with my wife. It was a 2 hour drive. Upon arrival, my wife and I went thru the house and opened several windows, went to the thermostat and turned it up to 80°, opened a dozen kitchen cabinets, I left the toilet seat up, we opened the refrigerator and just look at it for about 5 minutes, then we went out the front door and left it open. We got in our can and went home.
After we were on the road for ten minutes we got a call from her, I answered on speaker (hands free) and was so happy to hear from her. It has been so long since I heard from her. We wanted to know how the new house thing was going. We actually talked like we didn't see her for a couple of weeks. Finally she asked, what is the deal? I said we were returning the favor of all those years living with her. Perhaps she could invite us for a visit some day, now that you are all moved in and all
Hope you liked this story!LOL. Ok set it up for auto changeover and tell them to watch the electric bill.

Re: How does sewage back up into homes
I grew up near the Bronx River. Never in my life have I considered fishing it. Too much ick factor.
Down here now, I asked a coworker who caught a carp what does carp taste like? He said, you scale and fillet it, lay it on a cedar plank, add seasoning, some lemon juice and place plank on the grill. When done toss the carp and eat the plank because the plank would go down easier.

Re: How does sewage back up into homes
...Out of clean waters, carp are excellent to eat...As a kid in Yonkers, I biked to the Bronx River for fishing. Carp were what ended up on the hook. It would not have been possible to describe that water as "clean" by any stretch of the imagination; it got worse over time. I took my catch home and buried it as fertilizer under the corn in our garden. My last ever "expedition" to the river saw me cutting the line and abandoning it so as not to foul my rod/reel with all the oil floating on the water.
Re: Oil tank failure due to overfilling and overpressure
Interesting...in that case, who ended up paying for the cleanup?I'm sure that was taken care of by the oil company insurance company. This happened in the 1970's before all the EPA guidelines were in place for underground tanks, and oil spill were not considered a hazard as they are today. I do know that the customer switched to gas heat soon after that.
The guy who was the best man at my wedding was working in the trucking company's vehicle repair shop at the time. He was Dispatched with 10 bags of oil dry a pump and some 55 gallon barrels. He met 2 other service department technicians on the job and spent the remainder of the day, tearing out red carpet and pouring oil dry on the floor while the service men pumped out the tank. After work that day, he told me all about the customer and what a mess I made.
Needless to say, My uncle Joe was not happy with me. Just another reason for me to leave the family business.
Re: Boiler Babysitter
How much does your babysitter charge per hour? Do they take care of ages 3 thru 7? My usually babysitter can't do it Thursday night. She has a big Algebra exam on Friday and needs to study on Thursday.
Re: HW Tanks: Burnham Alliance LT vs Vaughn Featherweight
Hi @seized123 , I'm thinking it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Also, water quality plays into any answer. So, what are you up to? 😇

Re: Seeking someone to pour gypcrete in NW Arkansas
You worked at Gitmo too? Super Cool..Mad Dog 🐕Did you do any exploring when you were there? I drove the whole base did as much hiking around and picture taking as the MP felt comfortable with

All the contractor lead people were there with Tradesmen International. Tax free income if you signed on for 18 months.
The head plumber from Rochester signed on just to have access to the snorkeling for two years. Another contractor wanted to fish the bay.
They have a nice marina where you can rent all sorts of boats.
Here is one of the locals that I met, looking for some fresh reading material, I suspected.

Re: Old 1/2" copper not same 1/2" size
Almost every crawl space I have been it means no lights (even if they have them the bulbs are shot)., mice, bricks, rocks broken glass cobwebs and climbing over sewer pipes and the wiring is usually just strung around and hanging everywhere.
