Re: Furnace playing games
@SuperTech says: "The R8184G is antiquated technology. You will regret using that control when it prematurely wears out the electrodes and igniter. No oil burner should be operating with that control these days. "
This.
We have numerous customers in the "boonies" with electronic primaries and don't have trouble with them. If you're wary, get a spare control and program it for your burner.
"Spark during Run" is a NO. You don't need it. The only reason the old control left the spark on was because it was cheaper to make them that way- you didn't need the second relay.
Re: Need second opinion on this Boiler install. Photos included
My mod cons when I lived in the country in Missouri all drained outside. If it is code compliant and has a means to soak away all winter.
The condensate ends up in the great outdoors regardless of being a drain to a septic or public sewer system, after all :) It just takes a few more processes to get there.
My roof gutters also managed to move a lot of water away from the buildings, it can be done with condensate.
A few jobs came across here where the condensate pump blasted the water outside the building as an option.

Just comment — it's much easier for others to view the photos if you insert them inline — the picture icon — rather than as attachments — the paper clip.
Re: Boiler Model & Year??
It's an EG-something. Measure the outside dimensions and look here:
Re: Steam Mains Insulate or not?
When you remove insulation you are adding radiation. If you have enough steam, o.k. If you don't you will find out.
Re: Rebuilding old radiator valves or replace?
Those old valves are much better than the new ones if you can save them.
Re: Humming to Hold Music
A lot of places are starting to use a call back option. You leave a message, and they call you back. If done right (sometimes questionable) its better, you can hang up and do something productive while waiting for the call.
Re: Looking for advice on balancing the system in my house to to help with heat and clanging
You have significant piping problems with your boiler which may restrict what you can achieve with venting.
I'll try to get you better heating on Radiator 3-1:
Try putting a slow (Hoffman) vent on 3-2 and see if that forces 3-1 to heat.
(There is no blockage in your 1-1/4" pipe. The panting vent is from bodacious condensate forming waves in the small, long runout by the fast venting. You can try increasing the pitch in that runout by lifting radiator 3-1 an inch or so…)

Then if that helps:
I would switch the two main vents from Main #3 to Main #2.
