Re: Seeking Engineer for Off-Grid Religious Facility Heating in the Mountain States
Firewood warms you twice once in the process of obtaining it, then when you combust it.
I live in the city now, so I head to the mountains or desert to burn wood to heat and cook, in the camper, with a Cubic mini wood stove.

Re: Looking for advice on balancing the system in my house to to help with heat and clanging
Can you provide a photo of the boiler header and the piping connection for that runout to Radiator 3-1?
It seems your principal problem now is the poor operation of that Radiator 3-1 .
There is no plugging of your steam pipes.
The 9-foot long 1-1/4" runout to your 16-section problem radiator is marginal, and will require good piping elsewhere. A large vent on this radiator will encourage steam flow but quickly produce lots of condensate. A slow vent will reduce condensate flow but retard heating that radiator. Experiment with that. A larger runout will be more forgiving. Steam flow is fighting condensate. There may be ways to improve this without changing that piping.
A slower vent on Radiator 3-2 may encourage a more balanced flow toward Radiator 3-1.
Let us know what steam return you have in the vicinity of that radiator or steam main.
Reducing your steam pressure to no more than 1-1/2 pounds should help performance. That should be a goal.
You mention that your boiler is cycling on pressure. It should not be doing that unless it's very cold outside, returning from a setback or very oversized. Have you calculated the proper size of the boiler vs. what you have?
Generally you can improve system performance by using a single brand of radiator vents that share the same characteristics. Mixing vents from various suppliers often retards performance.
Nice diagrams and good work!
Re: Humming to Hold Music
For the third time in seven years they changed the cable connectors and the splitter. By the way the splitter and the connectors are in a watertight box that I installed myself eight years ago. Guess what, still no search feature. By the way, I told the technician when he was leaving why I originally reached out to Xfinity, he chuckled.
I must agree that there is NOTHING more aggravating than attempting to deal with Infinity on any subject. They are inhabited by a complete bunch of idiots and I really wish I could do something to tell Comcast to take their business and stick it. The cost of their services is now EQUAL TO FUEL OIL!!!!

Re: Does the same company make all these different brands of steam boilers?
U.S. Boiler is the parent company.
You can also add Burnham to the list.

Re: Furnace playing games
If valve on delay 0, burner off delay 0, as it should be without a delay oil valve, then "spark in on delay" correctly won't be an option. Spark during run, NO.
The hardest part for you is going to be getting all the wires in the junction box and tightening the screws without pinching the wires. Be careful here. They give you wire nuts and pigtails. Make good splices.
*Before you turn the power on, remove the cad cell eye from the burner. Close everything up and start it. Make sure the safety works and shuts off the burner within 15 seconds. Now pop the eye back in.

Re: Furnace playing games
Would you please stop fretting about it……………..just move forward in a methodical way and eliminate it.

Re: Furnace playing games
spark during run - yes, as following all I know for sure is the old primary is an intermittent system. I have seen yes, and no for this, but in my case going with yes.
You don't need to be wedded to the old control. It cannot smack you with any judgment during the divorce.😁
The 7284 can be run as interrupted. Why do you need the spark output after the burner fires? In fact, there are some arguments that the combustion is slightly improved without the spark sitting directly in front of the nozzle.

Re: Single pipe radiator
You have to consider how the condensate is being handled from the single pipe radiator. Usually a water loop or a trap could be used. You can't just dump the condensate back in the steam line as it is properly not sized for that.
Send a diagram of how this radiator was added. And… at what pressure is the boiler operating?
Re: NEW STEAM BOILER COST
Anyone else remember the dream team job from a few years back?
Re: NEW STEAM BOILER COST
Dont forget, some of us go out of our way to only use domestic pipe, valves & fittings (Made in USA)....big cost difference. Mad Dog
