Re: Buderus g124x
Does your boiler have outdoor sensor connected? if yes than AUTO is best. If no then you don't need the Logamatic Control and you can use the L8148 control only.
Does your boiler have the L8148 control?
Re: What I think
Why whenever a steamer gets installed totally wrong all of a sudden no one owns it?
But they install a new pilot and in that case they own it?

Re: How to add Zone Valve to Prevent “Ghost Flow”
in some cases the ghost is going up the return side, large diameter vertical piping can encourage that
So you might need to check both sides
Use a soft seat spring type conical check for good flow and silent operation
A serviceable type is nice if you have old iron piping. Rust and scale can hold them open a little

Re: How to add Zone Valve to Prevent “Ghost Flow”
If it is truly a back flow situation, some circulators come with or you can add a check valve, you could also add an external check valve.

THIS
Why would you want to bother with adding zone valves when they make check valves for this exact problem!!!
As 109A noted, you can probably add the check right in the pump!!

Re: What I think
Touch that 30 year old boiler and you own it. The call backs and the liability.
A competent tech should offer a few options,
Good replace just the broken part, as long as the system is safe and code compliant
Better upgrades- move the expansion tank, correct the wrong closely spaced tee, correct the venting for example
Replace newer more efficient technology with 10 year manufacturers warranty
Keeping in mind that tech needs constant ongoing training to keep up with new technology. Somebody needs to pay for that. That tech labor & training cost is in a 1 hr service call, or a multi day replacement.

Re: OWB and Vitodens
Put an aquastat on the OWB supply and interrupt the TT signal to the Vitodens with it. Then it'll only kick in when the OWB is below setpoint. I do this all the time and it works flawlessly.

Re: No Zone 2 Heat, Old System, Stat calls Boiler won't fire but Zone 1 Works Perfectly.
This happens often. and when you get used to doing it this way without any negative repercussions, you dont think twice about this incorrect wiring job. Then you may not realize that your customer is actually experiencing the cold shower problem. As the coil calcifies over time, The problem becomes more and more of a problem. The problem is then diagnosed as a poor design to begin with and a separate water gets installed. But the L8182 control still maintains boiler temperature that is wasting fuel. I have seen this too many times. Electric water heater 2 zone boiler maintaining 160° for the zone 2 pump and high oil usage and high electric usage.
The best practice is to install the tankless coils with easy to connect maintenance valves (like those recommended on wall hung tankless water heaters) and the proper zone 2 control connected to ZC and ZR on the zone 1 control. But that would mean that plumbers would need to know how to do this when they add a zone to a boiler with a tankless coil. …unlike the plumber that was at @MODZISTER's location many years ago and just added the pump control because "the boiler is already hot anyway so you just need to pump that hot water to the new baseboard heaters"
Re: Zone Valves BANG on opening only
Remove the check valve on the circulator with the zone valves.

Re: Am I being dense?
or replace green valves with these reversible ported shutoff valves….

Red ones doesn’t hurt as @psb75 pointed out but removing may be cleaner.
