Re: Oil Boiler Issues
I don't know why this discussion is focused on oil lines. It's a 2 pipe setup. No priming the pump needed. @Jadams4978 states "When it fires up it smells like diesel fuel and doesn't smoke at all." It shouldn't smell like anything when it fires. Especially if it's brand new.
IMO, more attention needs to be on the burner. Especially if a combustion test was never done at the end of the installation. It could be just a simple air adjustment. So take the wise advice of @Jamie Hall, find a full service oil heat provider and get it fixed right. You'll likely have to pay for the initial repair, but most repairs should be no charge after that. Its not DIY if you don't have the instruments and knowledge. You do know that your new heating system requires annual maintenance. And its not just nozzle, filter, strainer, fire.
I wonder if the installer knows what a bypass plug is.

Re: Drip to nowhere.
Are you sure there is no radiator connection being all drips i have ever seen or installed where on the bottom not piped off the side being for it to serve its intended purpose it would be facing down not to the side being on its side a decent amount of condensate would need to build up before draining . Why not just use a camera and look down the wall or better yet just remove the rest of he damage dry wall and visually take a look ? At one tome there may have been a wall or ceiling mounted rad but in which case there would be a wet return for condensate to drip too one would assume .

Re: CGA Temperature
Generally, a supply temperature of 180°F is only need at design conditions. Lower temperature can and are used during warmer weather. Outdoor resets 256 - tekmar. With cast iron boilers 130° return temp is about minimum to prevent condensing in the exhaust gases.

Re: Concern about new boiler installation
No smoke but there is an odor. Was hoping that was just normal for a new boiler. I have read new boilers can release some odor due to manufacturing oils etc getting heated up during initial use.
Re: Concern about new boiler installation
That does not look like something the installed would do. that is a factory installed nut and bolt. I believe that you are just fine but you should bring it to the technicians attention when he comes back. If there were a real problem, there would be smoke or an odor as a result, but I believe there are at least 3 other bolts that are holding that door on to the heater.
Re: Heat loss calc..
Typical residential boiler is around 3x oversized, residential furnace 2x.
Fuel use is usually the most accurate method, the only time it will be off is if you have a lot of glazing and solar gain, like an MCM house with a wall of glass.

Re: Oil Boiler Issues
But a tiny leak should not make problem with a two line system, should it?

Re: How Does This Look?
Looks good but where the backflow preventor and a electronic low water cut off unless its equipped w a digital aquastat w a lwco feature ,both are code in my area if getting inspected . Other wise welcome to doing it the correct way now dont fall back into old habits . Its a wonderful thing when ya don't have to remove convector covers to bleed rads and convectors . on another note if looking to get better try califee demineralizing filter to bring your fill water within what the manufacture's specs . Keep up the good work .
