Small steam boiler replacement

Replaced a rotted out Burnham IN5 installed in 2009 which was too oversized with a Weil-McLain EG35. Also re ran all new wet returns as I figured the old ones would be clogged after 80 years of usage, which they were.

    @Dave0176 I'm guessing Burnham wanted no part of covering their block warranty?

    Single pipe quasi-vapor system. Typical operating pressure 0.14 - 0.43 oz. EcoSteam ES-20 Advanced Control for Residential Steam boilers. Rectorseal Steamaster water treatment

    Chris, Burnham wanted the old boiler block removed and sent in for evaluation with a purchase of a new block, which would have been refunded should Burnham determine it was a manufacturing defect that caused the early demise, albeit, prorated as @Danny Scully pointed out. The HO chose to just let me install a new boiler without any hassles.

    Yes the old boiler wasn’t piped bad. Most of the problems occurred initially because previous contractor didn’t vent the mains properly and installed a boiler that was too oversized. Unfortunately Livingston NJ has some really hard water too. The tankless hot water heater appeared to be leaking also.

    I'm the homeowner that had this steam boiler installed. I wanted to say that it was a pleasure to have Dave install our replacement. He and his father were really great. His proposal was a bit higher than others but I went with him because I wanted to make sure that the boiler installment was done correctly.

    Actually, the steam boiler that was originally installed in 2009 was installed by another contractor listed on heatinghelp.com at the time - Reissman Plumbing.

    Reissman Plumbing didn't install main vents on the supply lines as he promised to do. I called him numerous times but never got him to come back. I ended up installing the main vents myself. He also didn't install a skim port and other required items. He also installed a way oversized boiler. Apparently, he didn't calculate the EDR before he submitted his proposal. I had personally asked him before he gave me his proposal if he calculated the EDR. He promised he did but it looks like had lied.

    I’m so glad I went with Dave of DL Mechanical. He was excellent.
    He calculated the proper EDR to recognized that the boiler was way oversized. His piping was better and he even offered to replace the return line at no extra charge. He went above and beyond what he was supposed to do. I really mean it. He is now scheduled to come back in October before the heating season starts to clean the boiler at no extra charge.

    If you live next to him and need steam work done, definitely go with him. He not only knows his stuff but also he actually performs excellent work.
