it's very comfortable in the house
I still need to balance the system, the living room is 66, the kitchen is 69, and my bedroom is 71. The bedroom radiator is almost turned off

Your AWT is probably only 80-85 degrees.

Gordy, maybe it is, to my tough, it doesn't feel much difference to what going out
    Paul
The living room has 13 ft ceilings, marvin windows fire place, has 2 layers of brick, 1 layer of clay block and plaster right to the block, I fired out 3/4 inch used boards of insulation between the firring strips and dry-walled over it. also added about 15- 18" of blow in insulation in that attic. The bad thing is, i have 2 huge radiators in the bay of the room, which does not send out the heat well. I put a fan back there, and the fan helps blow out the heat that is built in that bay. It is all enclosed except the front face that has radiator screening in front of it
This is how my house was built.

Any architectural feature at the ceiling that needs to be preserved? What's below the livingroom?
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
    the boiler room, is below
i have an unusual ceiling, and i do have crown molding that i put in, with led light rope, to shine ion the ceiling.
i am not sure what the ceiling is called, a pan, or a tray ceiling.
The wall and the ceiling do not meet at a 90 degree.
    why do you ask?

Thinking about possibilities......radiant ceiling. How about radiant floor? I remember the issue with your radiator in the enclosure. It's not cutting it.

    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
with less temp of water, I need to turn down the temp on the thermastat I have back there, maybe this will createthe fan to stay on longer.
    As far as the floor
I have 90 year old oak floors in great shape, and a plaster ceiling below in the boiler room.
It's a good idea, but my body would not allow me to do this
    thanks Paul

I just turned the thermostat down for the living radiator fan, the fan kicked on, and maybe this will help warm up that room

Another thought i had about the living room, and maybe you will think this is crazy, but what if i had the living room on a separate zone, the living room is directly above the boiler room.
what do you guys think? or is this a crazy costly idea

What was the heat loss of the living room
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
Good morniing I have to look it up on my tablet. I'll get back to you soon
the slant fin has a number after the living room, is this the heat loss? 15565
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
yes, I checked, this is the heat loos on that room

    Paul48 Member Posts: 4,469
NO.......Add emitters. Can't think right now, but someone with a clearer head can help you out with the sizing of an emitter, or emitters, based on room temp and btus applied now.

    Paul help me
    Emitters, like radiators, or baseboard?
  • Paul48
    Paul48 Member Posts: 4,469

No.....The room is cold relative to all the other rooms. It, and only it needs more btus. Thermal imaging might help determine where you're losing the most heat in that room.

I have a beautiful room, are the panal radiators the ones that go on the wall. i forgot the name of the manufacture, but, I didn't think they are so nice looking, and if I remember, they are very expensive

there are 2 huge radiators in my bay, it might have the proper btu's, I am just having a hard time getting the heat out. I turned down the thermostat, lets see if this helps

There is no problem so large, that throwing a bucket of money at, can't cure. I can only tell you what needs to be done. If you choose, your living room will be aesthetically cold.

You should be able to read SWT, RWT, and ΔT on the boiler display.

    Getting close!

and these radiators run well with low heat?
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
    s? water temp
    r? return water temp?
    delta the difference?
  • SWEI
    SWEI Member Posts: 7,356
Yes, the panel radiators are designed to perform with low temperature water. They come in pretty much every shape and size (rectangular that is.)

Properly installed, they are about as neat and clean as it gets. Are they a work of art, such as some of the old CI radiators?......No. You can buy replica, ornate cast iron radiators, just have someone stand by with the smelling salts when you see the price.

I just might have to do it
I'll check it out, price and sizes and where to place them

    SWEI Member Posts: 7,356
SWT = Supply Water Temp = Outlet Temp in Lochinvar-speak.
RWT = Return Water Temp = Inlet Temp

    Like this.

the 2 walls on both sides of the bay, might be a good place to install the panel radiators.
Is there any brand that would be recommended, and brands I should stay away from.
Problem is, cost is an issue.
I can put 30 wide by anything high.
how many btus am i looking for?
do i still keep the old radiators ?

I am looking at the company Buderus. they show them as horizontal, can I use them as vertical?
  • SWEI
    SWEI Member Posts: 7,356
The fins need to be vertical to allow convection.

Near as I can tell, Rettig manufactures the Buderus panel radiators. They offer a wider range of sizes under the Myson label (including some vertical configurations, but those cost quite a bit more than the standard panel style.) You can always stack them if you need to.

Do you have the calculated design day heat loss and amount of installed EDR for the problem room? We'll need the same info for at least one (preferably more) rooms which are heating properly.
