What am I doing wrong

maybemark
maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
As several of you know, I installed a lochinvar whn 085 and a lochinvar squire 40
Why does my 085 never modulate ( or i never seen it do it.) It go from 0, when satisfied to 100% then gets blocked when it meets in set point or when it meets it's temp. turns off
My 40 squire does modulate. I've seen it start off with 100%, but when it gets closer to the temp. the % goes down, unil it meets the temp that i gave it
thanks
Mark

    Post your programming parameters.

Is ODR hooked up? Is the reset curve programmed correctly? Boiler sensors installed?

Refresh our memories is it piped direct to the system, or P/S?

So the boiler must be firing on and off all the time there is a call for heat?

I know how to get into the service mode, but what peramiters are you looking for?
thank for answering my quote, but I do not know what is ord,
yes it has boiler sensor. it is piped directly to the system, and the 110 volt is wired to the boiler

    ced
Yes, when called for heat, it goes to 100%, when it reaches it's temp. , it turns off

ord or ODR is the outdoor reset that tells the boiler what it's doing outside. Unless this is hooked up I don't think it will modulate at all.

I do have a sensor outside

Is the supply sensor installed for the boiler.....on the supply side.

ODR = outdoor reset. Is that sensor installed, and of so is the curve set properly?

Are your rads meeting the set point in your rooms?

yes, the supply sensor is installed, it is in my piping, the censor
yes, the outdoor censor is installed. I'm not sure what you mean by curve set. so, if i don't know, this might be the problem, unless the curve set is the ramp, which is turned off, by default.
My house is very comfortable, I changed the location of the thermostat, and I just turned the valve down a little in that room, because my living room and kitchen are not as war as the rest of the house

Is the supply sensor selected as the controlling sensor?
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
    I'll go look,

    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
the system sensor is hooked up to the control sensor

or did you mean the programming?
    what should it be?

    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
I used most all default. I did change some numbers or temp. for chicago winters

    Supply water temperature.

What are your settings for Boost.
    Ramping.
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
    I'll go look
I think ramping default is inactive

Maybe this would be easier. Did you program anything? Is everything factory default?
  • ced48
    ced48 Member Posts: 469
ODR must not be selected, or modulation would have to come into play.
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
most everything is default, but not everything

I see the temp outside on the boiler
I will go look at the low and hi outdoor temps

How high is your water temperature when the boiler stops firing ?
  • Gordy
    Gordy Member Posts: 9,546
    What did you change?

    Thank you

I believe if it's hooked up correctly it is recognized.

I wonder if this is it
I have low out outdoor set -5 default is180 and I have high outside at 64, default is70
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
I don't remember how high the temp is when it shuts off
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
should I change the low and high temp outside to defaults?
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
I have a feeling my low outside temp is wrong, not even in the perimeters

    Gordy Member Posts: 9,546
You have the ability to do three ODR zones are you using , and programming zone 1? Do you have more than 1 zone?
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
the outdoor temps are set at -5 and 65, the set points are default
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
I only have 1 zone, and then DHW. I am using zone 1 for my heat
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
I was just downstairs, and the stat called for heat, it went right up to 100% flame
  • Gordy
    Gordy Member Posts: 9,546
Let us know what the supply water temp is when boiler shuts down.
  • ced48
    ced48 Member Posts: 469
But what are the water temps set at for those outside numbers?
  • maybemark
    maybemark Member Posts: 1,131
when i got there, the boiler was off, the system temp is 81, when i got downstairs

There are 4 sets of parameters to program.
    Outdoor low, and high.
Outdoor set point low, and high.
    Outdoor air shut down.
    Outdoor air differential.

Read the service manual to get a better understanding of how these work in conjunction with the outdoor reset feature.

I have a feeling your only setting parts of each set of the parameters.

Gordy, I did read the manual, but I will go downstairs and see what numbers I put in
