Faucet brands

Still looking for something decent without paying an arm and a leg. I have been through 3 kitchen faucets in 16 years……well maybe more like 2 I just change it a year ago. Have a Moen now had Delta before.

Whenever they start acting up I try and rebuild them but have never had any success. The inside are usually to gunked up and corroded.

In the two bathrooms I have Simmons. They have been good. I put new cartridges in one of them last year. My first success!!!!

Ive been putting Chicago Faucet and Gerberit in the buildings' apartments. One and done.

I can't stand Moen, but a plumber friend of mine loves em. Go figure.

We use a couple of those (from Lowes) commercially at work and they are around 13 yrs old and holding. However, @ChrisJ likely has three holes to fill. Personally, anything Lowes or HD has that the wife likes and less than $300. Typically $200.

The kohler I have has the spout mounted in one hole and the valve in another. You could always punch another hole in the sink. I have a water filter spout in one hole, the air gap for the dishwasher in another and the faucet in the other 2.

Why do people want to "cheap out" on a kitchen faucet? I ask clients, "how important is this device to your life?" Or "how many times a day is this device used?" I also use the phrase "water (clean, potable) is life." Moen is a good brand. Al Moen invented the single handled faucet. Moen products have a lifetime of the original purchaser guarantee on parts. Chicago faucets are solid. So are Grohe. Kohler is generally good.

If you want cheap and easy to service, get a Delta. I've used them in apartments forever because they are easily serviceable. Lately though, they've turned so skimpy I've switched to Gerber, which are expensive but prison-quality-bullet-proof.

A $40 plastic Delta from the special Chinesium "Home Depot consumer line" is about the cheapest serviceable faucet you'll find. But remember you get no more than you pay for. Don't overtighten the nuts.

Delta and moen were great in to the early 2000's or so then they decided they needed to make them cheaper and prettier and charge more for them.

i rescind my american standard recommendation.

I replaced the hot cartridge once about 10+ years in under warranty. The new cartridge was a different design. I replaced that cartridge in 2022 under warranty. It started leaking again in 2024. i bought a new cartridge instead of dealing with the warranty process again. That cartridge just failed this morning.

the 2022 cartridge had the stem get loose from the plastic carrier the disc is on so it was drilling because it wasn't closing the disc all the way when the stem hit the stop. This morning the stem broke loose i think from the disc carrier, i haven't opened it up yet and the handle turns loosely from stop to stop without turning the water on. i'm not sure but i think i might have used both cartridges they sent me in 2022 to fix the hot again before i bought a cartridge.

the newer cartridges looked the same as the 2nd cartridge that lasted a decade so i'm not sure if it is a manufacturing defect or if they changed the plastic or made some change i didn't notice but until they get this sorted out i can't recommend them.

i like stuff with stops that don't move for kitchen and bathroom stuff though single handle is really the reason to go with washerless. it takes a lot of labor to clean up the parts when you regasket a compression faucet so replacing a cartridge is probably cheaper if you're paying someone $100/hr. standard washers aren't quite hard enough for hot water. but for the most part it is marketing. the way the first and second cartridge were manufactured seemed reasonable although i regasket my shower valve about as often as those cartridges lasted.

Just as an fyi. Most of the faucets I have been around are set up so you can use it single hole, or three hole. When going three hole, they come with a plate that just covers the additional holes. Might want to look at that.

As to bathroom faucets, I have two Delta brand in two bathrooms when I purchased the house in 1996 - that clearly date back to the 60s or early 70's. I purchased a new ball like valve/stem and three replaceable washes a few years ago that fixed a drip issue. The local Plumbing Family-owned supply shop told me many new plumbing fixtures no longer even have the name on them - just passing along what I was told

Whats the lifespan of a new bathroom faucet today and are repair kits available for them like my Delta?

Chris, I have a kohler simplise that replaced a delta that replaced a moen . I had the moen for almost 20 years until the brass rotted out in a few places. the delta just had bad handle control and the kohler has been really nice for the last few years without a hitch. got it from Ferguson for not very much compared to other options and do recommend it. My sister has the single hole version of this.

You are correct that on/off is separate from temp control. One of the main reasons I did not like the delta. This seems well made and I don't know if there is a difference between supply house places and big box stores. I suspect there is.

Also, there are no stupid questions. Otherwise I'd hold the title for asking stupid questions :)

Not in the accessory list. What I would like is if shooting out the window was allowed here. the deer have been plentiful and in the warm season my wife would gladly like if some Hosta eating prevention could be happening. We have a creek running just down the hill and it's a travel path for the herd.
