When I asked that I meant that use washers and not a special cartridge

turns out that plastic they are using for the piece between the stem and disc cracks. first the crack makes it wedge itself against the outside of the cartridge and makes it hard to turn then the stem finally won't turn the disc. this last one the pieces wedged the stem in place from turning. i frankensteined an old and new cartridge to use the old stem to disc connector with the new disc and housing that has a new seal on it.

As to a single handle bathroom Delta faucet , I was surprised that the local Plumbing Supply shop simply pulled off the shelf the washers/components to fix the dripping issue - and for a faucet that's over 50 years old. BTW it worked - smh
I admit, some of these older local Plumbing Supply businesses that have been around for decades have old stock not available in big box stores.
Lastly quote from LARRY:
"What I would like is if shooting out the window was allowed here. the deer have been plentiful and in the warm season my wife would gladly like if some Hosta eating prevention could be happening"
Where I live shooting IS allowed out the window and I too have deer in range. Too many deer and not enough good hunters it seems

My two, bathroom Delta faucets evidently were of different vintage, though both very old. The old-timer at the local Plumbing Shop had both parts replacements and, yes, it may have been different size springs mentioned above

I still have some original sets of springs and those little cup washers made by Delta in there original packaging.
What they did in some era of their packaging was to give one pair of cup washers and two sets of springs per pack.
One pair of springs was longer for use with their deep bodied faucet where the washer would go. And a short pair of springs was used for standard depth.
Delta made, or still makes faucets that have a body that has a deep well for the longer springs and the shorter springs were used for the common depth. They did this packaging because there was no way of them knowing what type of faucet was to be repaired so they offered both lengths of repair springs
You could also use the longer spring in place of the short one to give more tension to the ball cam and cup washer.
@ChrisJ T&S Brass should offer a residential single hole faucet with spray but sadly they don't. They are an excellent faucet company. I thought that they had a residential line. Maybe dig deeper? Give them a call before you chose? It would the longest lasting faucet you would own. But I think you already know that.

I'm not sure.
The reason I like them is because of the faucets they sell for hospitals etc. A residential line would kind of ruin that.

Chicago uses washers.

I am pretty sure all their 2 handle stuff can use a compression cartridge or a washerless cartridge. I would assume all the single handle is washerless and probably ceramic. One could argue that a number of resilient seat designs by many manufacturers are a form of a washer.
There are a number of quarter turn compression stems. Usually they use a double spiral thread to do it.

compression cartridge- so washers?

I don't know, I had wondered that but cartridge sounds like a custom assembly, no?

Compression means it uses a washer. The same faucet is available as compression or washerless by using a different cartridge. If you look on their web site you can select the different cartridge options and it will give you the part number for the faucet assembled with that cartridge. There are options like auto shut off cartridges and things like that too for different applications.

it looks a whole lot like kohler and gerber use the same single handle cartridge but kohler uses green plastic and gerber uses blue plastic

I've had superb luck with Chicago Faucets — both original quality, and as some of you may have read, with service. Likewise I've never had any trouble with Moen, although I find that it is necessary to replace the cartridge from time to time — perhaps every ten years — but again, they are very responsive.
I have Kohler single handle faucets for all bathroom lavatories, and I've never had to repair them. The tubs and showers are a rather odd mix…
Years ago I did use Delta, but… something happened and I found them to have short lifespans.

my friend had a pull down spout moen with a remote single handle valve body in his apartment from about 2007 and it started leaking out of the valve body somewhere where the tubes connected in to it.
his landlady replaced it with the kludged in cartridge single handle single hole delta. it works ok so far but the lever on the side of the spout is hard to judge what temp it is set to.(the handle/cartridge being indexed wrong is a strong possibility from the handeyperson that installed it)
