I am in northern Nebr. and found my first ones in my 1955 high school. Still had original traps, most probably still working.
    The orifices saved them.

@JUGHNE Thanks for the Intel pal. I'll give them a buzz this week. I reached out to them via email and haven't gotten a response.

    Before

    After

Update: Today my plumber took out the copper boiler piping and installed all threaded black piping with a 3" drop header and a vaporstat. I can't thank each of you especially, Dan, for giving me all this knowledge involving the art of steam. For the first time in 4 years my home is warm in every room.

What a feeling! Next up orifice plates customized for each radiator from Tunstall. I shall keep you all posted.

    Excellent!

That looks great! I’m not at all surprised that the whole system has improved. You may even notice that fuel consumption per degree day is reduced as well.

Your saga is particularly illustrative since the only thing really different is the boiler piping itself. In the interests of science it really helps.

    Congrats!

    On to the orifice plates!

Do you know the lowest pressure the system will work at?
A 0-3 PSI gauge would be needed to know this.

Wow, that looks a whole lot better at the boiler,
remind us who came out and did that work,
was it the original install company ?

@neilc yes it was the original plumbing company but with my guidance the whole time. I hired an steam specialist myself who gave me the step by step process of what needs to be done. I coached them the whole way. It took 8 hrs but it working great so far.

@JUGHNE at the moment I have my vaporstat set to cut out 1/2 pound of pressure but it has yet to cycle off due to pressure. My run cycles are 20 mins long because of the cyclegard installed. I may eventually install a safgard in the future.

And yes, I only have a high pressure gauge installed but my neighbor has a setup with a low pressure gauge that I may mimick.
