Working on putting a complete steam system in for Cypress Brewing Co here is Edison NJ. The brewery is being expanded to a 40 bbl system. Boiler is a Weil McLain 488 with a Power Flame gas burner. Got the boiler in and put together today.

Yeah those are pretty heavy end sections on the 88, about 670 lbs, IIRC. If you want reaaally heavvvy , the Peerless TC II ends I believe are over 1000 lbs. Of course there's the monster WM 94.......don't know what those weigh.

The front and back of a Smith 28 or a Weil 88 is more like 800-900lb. The 94 Weil is like 1500. Never did one of those, hope I never do.

I'm gonna run two 5" risers out into a 6" header. I'm running one 4" steam main up over to the kettle and hot liquor tank.

How far do you have to run that 4 inch main? @Dave0176 .... that's probably the most back breaking part of the job

Nice! Glad there was a lot of space to work in.

I see you are using condensate return tank - curious what traps will you use, if any?

Actually using a condensate return tank and a boiler feed pump.

Probably going to Hoffman or Mepco F&T traps. The boil kettle produces around 600lbs of condensate per hr, so 3/4 traps will be fine.

    Great!

What's the daily/yearly expected run time on this boiler? I'm curious what the maintenance schedule will look like at a brewery application.

Nice work. I hope you had some beer in your quote: like a case per week for a year...

Now that is WORK, maybe it also explains why it's hard to get people to get into this line of work. A lot of the young I talk to seem only interested in writing the next great computer game. The idea of hard physical work is repugnant to them.

That boiler is going to do a superb job of producing dry steam, you and your men are doing a great job.

Yes Bob you are right, my brother whom is 21 yo was helping us and was good but it cut into his gaming and hanging with friends and he hasn't worked with us in over a year now.

I find most young guys are useless with their hands except for holding a controller. Most don't even care about money because their parents spoil them including my pop. I'm 20 years older then my bro.

What's that new exercise thing called nowadays, with flipping tractor tires, cross-fit? How about boiler-fit? Lugging boilers and sections up and down stairs, piping, wrenching... 2 birds with 1 stone. Who's with me?

When I went to work for USPS it was because engineering jobs in my field were evaporating and I needed a job. When I went to work for them as a technician (mail sorting machines are complex and some have dozens of computers controlling them) I started out on the floor and within a few years they started to put new people under me to show them the ropes. A lot of these folks came from industrial jobs and lost their job just like me because of downsizing.

When the market collapsed in 2008 we got guys in who had been white collar but their fields were devastated by the collapse of the economy. The ones who worked out had diversified work experience and fit right in. The ones who had never done anything else but operate a clipboard didn't do so well.

The point is people do themselves a big favor when they take jobs that get them acquainted with real work. Computers will take over a lot of the code writing in a few years, you better have something to fall back on. Companies can't offshore the installation of boilers and minisplits.

Nice job. Pretty rare we see a new steam system in any building or home. To me at least it seems odd that you get to install the boiler, piping, traps, condensate tank, boiler feed tank, etc wherever you want. We're used to dealing what was there for the last century or so most of the time and making the new equipment work.

Final pics of the install. This was challenging to say the least but I managed, for the most part this job was done with the help of my 65 yo father who can work circles around some youngins today. A good friend of mine provided the added muscle for the big stuff. Pop don't care for heights anymore either, lol. Just have to wire it and wait for final inspections.
