good luck. How many suites did Copeland loose due to the rust situation they had years ago ………..Zero

the problem is with the regulation. you can build something that you know will vent refrigerant in to the atmosphere with no consequence.

there’s no regulation on how long it has to last.
I have a 1960’s Coke vending machine. Runs perfect. Draws 1 Amp more then todays R-290 explosive BS.

i know there isn't but if there were they'd get is sorted out pretty quickly.

Nothing wrong with propane.
Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

R-290 is a great refrigerant

Hank Hill would agree.

probably far less likely to release its contents fast enough to exceed the lel than a forgotten aerosol can

Hmm I wonder where these regulations come from?

dupont and honeywell don't manufacture equipment. but i feel this is drifting in to politics.

They do not, but they do manufacture refrigerants. Look at the current cost of 1234yz vs R134A which now has an expired patent.
IMO, it won't go into politics if you simply stick to the facts and don't wander and add speculation.

my point is it is the chemical companies that are lobbying for profit, the equipment manufacturers usually are lobbying against change and are just caught in the patent fight. in fact usually they put their money in lobbying against the change instead of figuring out how to make a good product with the change they throw something terrible together at the last second.
btw the aprilaire is 410a

I'm not sure that manufacturers are against change. Pardon the AI but it writes up a summary much better than I can. I remember when I got a new Carrier system a couple decades ago and it used the proprietary term "Puron". I have to imagine Carrier didn't fight against Puron. I will cease posting after this one—it was a response to question of regulations causing problems in the industry.

FWIW, I gave up on salvaging the AprilAire in 2023 and bought a HomeLabs residential unit without pump or Wifi. Simple math for 2026:$1800 and a 6 year life vs $350 and still running 3 years later. I'd have prefereed expoensive and serviceable, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

the aprilaire seems significantly less likely to burn the house down on its way out

A bit off topic. Unoccupied in humid places absolutely need dehumidification. Best bet is two dehumidifiers.

Maybe three?
