Rust on Fill and Vent Pipes

in Oil Heating

Hi all, the attached image shows some rust on the piping to my recently-installed oil tank.

Assuming that the rust won't limit itself to being only a thin coating on the surface and needs to be addressed, what should I have the installer do?

Would a light sanding followed by silicone or paint take care of it?

    That rust is surface. After a few decades it might eat a little into the fittings… after a century or so they might leak.

    If you object to the look of it, get a small wire brush and brush it. Then spray on a coat of Rust-O-leum rusty metal primer, then a coat of whatever colour you fancy.

    that’s steel. It rusts! Sand it, paint it black and no more rest

    You could ask the installers for Stainless Steel fittings and pipe.

    No one is piping oil tanks in stainless steel that I ever seen.
