If its inside the building footprint and you have the opportunity to have access to it, why wouldn't you? Its still a mechanical joint and could start to leak - back up in to the building- down the road.Mad Dog

The water service fitting with the rubber gasket and the 5/16 inch locking ring are rated for underground repair. They are superior to a flare on Old piping because the process of flaring the pipe can cause fractures around the flare. Copper becomes work hardened. Also the interior surface of the pipe becomes pitted with normal use and a flare is a metal to metal seal which is greatly compromised if the surface of the pipe is less than brand new. This is why most water companies in the Northeast do not use flared fittings on repair of old work. In my area of Massachusetts this has been standard practice for over 35 years. My father who bless his soul started the trade in the 1950s was hard to convince that flair was not Superior to what he referred to as a dresser coupling. A dresser coupling does not have the lock ring that an underground water service fitting has.
Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.
