Support steam pipe with split ring hangers

Can I support a horizontal run to a radiator with a split ring hanger? I'm wonder how expansion and contraction cycles will be impacted by such rigid support.

  if the threaded rod is long it will work.
  if the split ring is over the insulation it will work.
