I actually went to a home yesterday to look at converting the house to Nat gas.... Sitting in the garage was a 1972 VV micro bus. The HO is the original owner. He refers to it as another member of the family.

I helped a buddy of mine swap a motor in one last fall. A wonderfully simple vehicle to work on.

My Brother had a VW Fastback with a Porsche engine. Two guys can lift it out by hand. He would say it was the only part of the car that had value when he was done with it.

Guess those guys can't work on hydronics, only forced air

Corvair engines were also another popular swap. It took some suspension upgrades, however.

My brother in law was a mechanic back in the day when the term "foreign car" mechanics was PC :)

He put a 455 Olds Tornado front drive train in the back of a crew cab style VW pickup. I need to dig up some pics of that rig.

He would pull a VW engine in a parking lot by putting 4 empty beer cans under, 4 bell housing bolts, throttle linkage, etc, it and yanking it out onto the cans. He kept a short block in the rear of one of his VW vans when he traveled the country, he could swap engines in an hour most anywhere.

It's funny I've never seen those trucks.... we're all over Chicago all the time. I just looked them up.... they are on the Northwest side.... a place without much steam so we aren't there much.
