If I hadn't seen some incredibly stupid things over the years I might not believe this.

I have had roofers cut right through my refrigeration lines and almost lose 200k worth of food, the lines where in between the condensing units and protected,........honestly I think it's the glue they use to adhere the rubber sections.0

As a 40-year resident of San Clemente, California, I can attest to the challenge one faces finding a competent roofer here. We went through several before finally hiring one who fixed a leak that manifested only during those very occasional days during our long drought when it rained.
And, the leak occurred because the roofer hired by a production builder when our house was put up in 1993 wasn't competent either.

I hope the building owner told them to paint the roof white or else; at no charge to the building owner after they found this screw up. That is a bad roof fire in the making.

I wonder how this happened. Certainly gross incompetence is one possible cause. Maybe the roofer's boss was out there shouting "I want this done, right now! Spray everything, I don't care what!!" Maybe the tenant said "we need to get that big box on the roof insulated, I saw condensation on the outside of it."
Perhaps the guy operating the foam gun should have refused, but I think it's possible he's not 100% culpable in this. It does look like someone put a board over the outdoor fan before the foam went down.

When I showed this thread to my wife, she speculated that the roofing crew was not quite fluent in English. She guessed their supervisor instructed them to cover the A/C unit, and that's what they did. Except they covered it with whatever roofing material was being sprayed, not with plastic sheeting to protect it from the roofing material.ratio said:I wonder how this happened...

the conversation probably went - foreman pointing to curb-
"you need to be sure to seal all around this unit" , "all around the unit?", "yes all around the unit", "ok"0
