If I hadn't seen some incredibly stupid things over the years I might not believe this.

I have had roofers cut right through my refrigeration lines and almost lose 200k worth of food, the lines where in between the condensing units and protected,........honestly I think it's the glue they use to adhere the rubber sections.

What's the problem? It doesn't leak does it? :)

Not at all, in fact they did an excellent job, the corners are amazing and around the disconnect? that took real craftsmanship........it just doesn't work anymore

As a 40-year resident of San Clemente, California, I can attest to the challenge one faces finding a competent roofer here. We went through several before finally hiring one who fixed a leak that manifested only during those very occasional days during our long drought when it rained. :) And, the leak occurred because the roofer hired by a production builder when our house was put up in 1993 wasn't competent either.

You can't have it both ways. Do you want it water tight or not... :D

I hope the building owner told them to paint the roof white or else; at no charge to the building owner after they found this screw up. That is a bad roof fire in the making.

I wonder how this happened. Certainly gross incompetence is one possible cause. Maybe the roofer's boss was out there shouting "I want this done, right now! Spray everything, I don't care what!!" Maybe the tenant said "we need to get that big box on the roof insulated, I saw condensation on the outside of it."

Perhaps the guy operating the foam gun should have refused, but I think it's possible he's not 100% culpable in this. It does look like someone put a board over the outdoor fan before the foam went down.

When I showed this thread to my wife, she speculated that the roofing crew was not quite fluent in English. She guessed their supervisor instructed them to cover the A/C unit, and that's what they did. Except they covered it with whatever roofing material was being sprayed, not with plastic sheeting to protect it from the roofing material.

Something similar happened when I was working at Ft. Monmouth in the 80s. The air conditioning systems suddenly cut out one morning. An investigation quickly discovered that the crew preparing to tar the roof had wrapped all the AC units in polyethylene sheet to protect them from the tar.

the conversation probably went - foreman pointing to curb-
"you need to be sure to seal all around this unit" , "all around the unit?", "yes all around the unit", "ok"
