@Fred Thanks! Great! I'm excited for the arriving seasonal cold.Fred said:@EdwinD , Yes, the equalizer will be nearly as hot as your header and steam mains. That heat will transfer to the Hartford loop. It is normal! Enjoy!

@EdwinD did you watch the video I posted?
It should answer your question completely.Single pipe quasi-vapor system. Typical operating pressure 0.14 - 0.43 oz. EcoSteam ES-20 Advanced Control for Residential Steam boilers. Rectorseal Steamaster water treatment1 -
The video showed you exactly what is taking place to help you understand what is going on.EdwinD said:
It applies directly to your concern. I explained you have near boiling water dumping down the equalizer. You didn't understand what I meant and that video shows what is going on.
This explains why it's hot and that it is normal.Single pipe quasi-vapor system. Typical operating pressure 0.14 - 0.43 oz. EcoSteam ES-20 Advanced Control for Residential Steam boilers. Rectorseal Steamaster water treatment2 -
Couple notes. After adding Hartford loop and replacing near boiler piping according to Weil-McLain specs
1) Operating pressure running at 0.00 to 0.5 oz.
2) Condensate return is much better - after boiler shuts off when desired temperature is reached, condensate returns to proper sight glass levels in about 10 min.
3) from cold water, all 11 rads receiving full heat in approx. 17-18 min. I guess that's pretty good...better than before

Since completing this project in 2019, I added some improvements in 2022 before the heating season began. THANKS @clammy @Fred @JUGHNE @ethicalpaul @Canucker @Jamie Hall @ChrisJ @EBEBRATT-Ed @Steamhead @Gordo @SeanBeans @mikeg2015 for your advice and walking a mere layman thru this project.
1) Added new gas valve and using a manometer checked intake pressure and adjusted manifold pressure (old valve - pilot light hold-down button spring broke)
Based on your input, changes were made:
2) Added shutoff valve to Hartford loop riser
3) Added union to wet return.
