Looked at this one earlier today. At first glance, I thought it was an electric tankless. Then I saw the gas line. DIY install. He’s lucky he did not burn his house down or kill his family.

    What are the discharge vent temps on such a unit?

    Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

    @ChrisJ. I don’t know the answer but it was hot enough to scorch the Sheetrock ceiling. Hence the sheet metal flame shield.

    I hope you removed the gas flex line or otherwise disabled it...........

    @ Steamhead. Turned off breaker. Shut off gas supply. The house is vacant.

    I'm pretty sure that is an outdoor water heater. I've seen them for RVs installed outside.
