Some Questions About Installing a Steam Boiler
Hi, I'm installing a new steam boiler, Williamson GSA 150. System is One-pipe parallel w/ wet return. I have a few questions and looking for advice:
- The manual recommends 2-1/2" pipe pipe for header. My current pipes are 2". Can I use 2" pipe?
- Can you recommend where the best place to put maintenance valves and access fittings?
- Should I install an automatic feeder for water supply? If so, where should that be located?
Thanks,
Steve

I just I stalled the same boiler in my house a few months back. 2in (insulated) single pipe works fine. Top taping is 3in so 3in-to-2in reducer might be $$ (it was in my case).
Install skim taping valve (the boiler doesn't come with the pipes or the valve).
Also replace the bottom drain valve with something better.
Install the "paraphenalia" on the side most convenient to service the boiler.
If you maintain the boiler then is no need to install water feeder (mine is still disconnected).
GSA125 is the same boiler (size, weight and water content) but it has 5 burners instead of 6 = slower steam production = generally better.
Have you measured your radiators yet?
