Technique for Insulating Tees attached to 45s

Options

Hello all,

I'm currently insulating all my steam pipes with 1.5" thick fiberglass. I have PVC jackets for all my 45s and Tees. I know how to install them individually, but I'm not sure what the best practice is for insulating a Tee that's immediately attached to a 45. I have this configuration at nearly every riser.

You probably can't get it perfect as the covers are large and you have some short nipples. Yo may have to experiment with the covers and cut them down with scissors. They should have given you insulation to fit inside the covers. If they didn't you can just get some fiberglass insulation at the big box and stuff it in there.

You can put the insulation on the pipe and hold it in place with any kind of tape (electrical tape) to hold it in place while you work with the covers.

For the cover don't use tape it looks like crap. They make white thumbtacks with barbs. get them where you bought the insulation. The trick is to put the thumbtacks through the first layer of pvc before you try putting the covers on.

Don’t sweat it, there’s no harm from an exposed tee
