Steam Pipe Insulation
Hello. I just had an old steam boiler removed and the asbestos along all the pipe runs in the basement. My new steam boiler is being installed in a week, but the contractor that is installing the fiberglass insulation can't start for 8 weeks. That brings us into December. It's mid October now and the heating season is about to start. I saw from the video on the major heat loss. Will the new boiler also be damaged in anyway if I run it before the insulation contractor gets here?

No it won't be damaged. It may have to run a little longer to heat up the space. Depending on how much insulation there is it may not even be noticeable.

It will be fine BUT... Putting on insulation has to be one of the easiest handy-man jobs.... Maybe it s time to tackle the job yourself? (Just don't disturb the asbestos).

Agreed. I was able to get it covered by an energy audit I did with NHSaves. My natural gas utility paid for it.

Asbestos has already been completely removed.

There's no danger of damage. The only thing that will happen is the basement will be a little warmer. You might even like it that way, it will tend to warm your floors.
