Steam Boiler Side Outlet type..... What was your experience with it?

Hi,

Im thinking of putting in my first Steam Boiler with a side outlet ( Green Mountain Makes one in their GMGS series) for technical reasons. Ive been told it can cause water carry over problems into the Main and steam wont dry out as well.. Has anyone followed manufacturer install instructions and still have bad experience with it? I plan to pipe in using a Drop Header.

Thanks Joe

Utica uses side outlets, and some do not like it for that reason. But if piped right and skimmed (like any other boiler) they work.

The boilers look the same too, Utica PEG-F and the GMGS Series. Who made Who…

my first boiler I experienced was a 112k BTU Utica.

It was piped very wrong (vertical non-header) and only used 1 outlet with 2” pipe.

Despite that, it would only carry over if the water quality was bad

Otherwise it performed fine. Follow the manual and you’re all set.

Use TSP to wash out most of the oils then skim as per the manual

Rebranded Dunkirk, just like the Utica PEG-F and Columbia CEG-F. Pipe it right and you won't have issues.
