Pick Up Factor- AGAIN

I realize this has been covered a million times. I thought for sure someone once said 1.33 was on the conservative side; if the mains were fully insulated, it was once said you could easily drop. I don't recall how much though, down to 1.2 recall.
Gotta guy with a dead boiler, and if I downsize a smidge I can get it up and running in a week. Or it's a 2-3 week wait for the Carlin 201GAS
Thanks for your opinion

Context- rads are 772 EDR. Thinking of a W/M SGO-7 with an EZ Gas running full bore- 275k. Just don't wanna get pinched😁

Are the mains well vented and insulated?

What they said above for 1 pipe steam! For 2 pipe steam, you usually can orifice down the radiator capacity to about 60% of the existing EDR and then add about a 15% factor. You'll need to check heat loss if you go to orifices to make sure you have enough radiator capacity once downsized.

Ed Does the 275k input make you squirm at all?

I don't understand the question.
If you rads are 772 sq feet and the boiler will do 758 those ratings are without the PU factor. The actual load is 772 x 240=185280 + piping and PU.
The boiler can fire 280,000 input gross output is 240,000 after chimney and jacket loss. the difference between 240,000 and the radiation load of 185280 is 54720 which is what is left for piping and pick up.
240,000/185280 so your left with a PU factor of 1.295 instead of the normal 1.33

@EBEBRATT-Ed sorry Ed I am throwing different factors.
The bigger carlins are not available off the shelf.
The Carlin EZ will run at 275k max, am I slicing hairs and running thin?
Can I still expect the .85 with a gas gun? Will the EZ gas truly pump out 275?
275 x .85 is 233
233,000/ 185,280 = 1.25
let it rip?

Jamie the current boiler seems to be a big ole 1970s Weil McClain, no header, no equalizer, no H Loop. I gonna try hard to make it better😊

@GW, Got it.
I think you will still be ok. I always question why the pick up needs to be so much. 33% is a lot. I can see needing more PU in the spring and fall when the boiler cycles a lot and sits off for a long time.
When its really cold the boiler sits idle for a shorter time and the piping stays warmer and would need less PU in my opinion.
The difference between 1.33 and 1.25 isn't much.
Rather than taking the suppliers word for it it might be worth a call to Carlin to see if they can scare up a 201. Sometimes the distributors don't try hard enough

Thanks Ed
I have a few EZ burners in my bone yard too, I could mount one if the 201 takes a couple weeks
Or I can run an oil gun too, there are good tanks in the basement.

@GW that would work I am sure they can get you the larger burner before it gets really cold.
