Very old well kept mansion full of mouat vapor traps, out of the 50 or so 2 radiators not heating but more importantly, contractor tiled one bathroom and lost the trap to that locations radiator.been on here reading some on these items, big question is, anyone have one of these laying around or, I have read that radiator may work wo the trap or even read someone made a restrictor out of a drilled penny. Also I understand the incoming steam supply valve on the radiator is a special type, please enlighten me on these very old items, thanks, Lou

    Supply valve can be replaced by a Mepco SWRF-C regulating valve. I'd think a regular trap would work as well. With the regulator set up, it'd hardly ever close.

    This ^^^^. Keep the pressure low if you can.

    Drill the penny. If it works drill more pennies.

    @Lou S. ,

    I have run a 1926 Mouat system for 32 years. It is a great system.

    The 3 ounces they claim in the attached literature is accurate. That is the highest pressure I ever see filling radiators part full even with only one 1/2 NPT vent for the whole system in a remote location. And that is with a boiler big enough that it barely needs to run 50% of the time to heat in design day conditions. Mouat designed the piping such that with part full radiators condensing it wouldn't require more than 3 oz at the header to deliver the steam. It is true. So I quickly found that the standard vaporstat control was essentially useless since there was no logical reason ever to fill radiators more than part full.

    Happy to discuss more if you wish.

    Also in there is a cutaway view of the return fitting.

    Was sort of wondering where you'd gotten to, @PMJ ! Hi! And I will add to your comment — my Hoffman Equipped system runs at 3 to 4 ounces with much the same sizing relationship to heat loss (except for the odd polar vortex).
