Another steamer today
Replaced rotting Peerless’s with a Williamson upgrade main venting and radiator vents.
Still need to go back to install the demineralize filter.

Was the return too high or just rotted out?

It’s rotted out due to too much make up water. Most likely leaks in the system.
We’ll find out once the heating cranking over next few weeks and we’ll go from there

That poor boiler died way too young. It must have been leaking gallons of water per week for however many short years it lasted. The size didn't look far off at least.

Agree with @ethicalpaul hope the large quantity of water problem is found and fixed. That poor Peerless died way to young. Doesn't look like the old boiler had an auto feeder.

It might be appearing as if it's sitting on top of the old boiler in those first two pics. Good ol' @Dave0176 told me once he hated autofeeders and more and more I agree with him. We homeowners should be looking at our boilers every week during the heating season. The autofeeder makes people think it's a "set it and forget it" appliance, and it isn't.

This is a header from 2 boilers ago situation too. What is it with that?

Boilers have gotten shorter, it's the least parts and effort, and it does no harm besides a little more metal to heat up. I'm not saying I'd do it that way if I were an installer, but I'm not an installer. I'm just happy they went in order supply → riser to main → equalizer
