    Is that some sort of automatic vent or do they still have to open the vent to let the air out and the steam in?

    That inlet is the original that was installed on those radiators and I don't remember the venting except maybe something about the nipples or dimples but I've probably snuck into Dan's time machine once to often and rode without a seatbelt so I'm a bit fuzzy on that. .

    I think the vent is original. The tube extends to the bottom of the mattress.

    The design of the indentations looks so modern high-concept! Is there a good diagram somewhere for the venting?

    The patent is in the Heating Museum but it shows it on a hot water system. For steam, it’s nothing more than extension of that tube, which reaches down to the bottom of the radiator.
