“In simple terms If you were to make a cup of tea, you add cold milk to cool it down the milk doesn't get hot the tea cools, and the same with a house."

    Huh?

Funny how they never identify the "heating expert."

There is a bridge for sale in New York. I think you might get this "Expert" to buy it!

I think what he is saying is, when it is cold outside, the cold goes to heat. Conversely in the summer, heat would go to cold. His analogy of pouring cold milk into hot tea would be not just a spot of milk, but the entire gallon of milk. In winter there is an endless supply of cold. He goes on to say that by not heating unoccupied rooms in the house, the cold from those rooms will go to the heated house through the walls making the heater work harder to warm the rooms that are being heated. It may have to do with the construction materials in Ireland, their rooms might be built out of stones.
I'm not a plumber or hvac man and my thoughts in comments are purely for conversation.

And heat is faster, because you can catch cold. :)

When I was in my little two year college "Heat & Power Technology" on the first day of thermodynamics class the instructor told us. "heat goes from where it is to where it ain't"

We asked him how he knew that and he said "just accept it that's the way it is"

That was 50 years ago. I don't think it has changed direction

As they taught us in RSES and UA Star clases:

    My brain hurts.

This actually irritates me. The total lack of scientific understanding. I mean sure turning off radiators, or blocking vents can cause a central heating system to run less efficiently and cause balancing issues but cause a room to be colder than the ambient outside temperature? Common. And what's even scarier is that there are so many people who will believe this steaming pile of BS.

It's a classic misunderstanding of cause and effect.

The very first thing I learned about heat in physics class, there technically is no such thing as cold.  Once one grasps that, really grasps it, the rest is easy.

The problem is, some people never grasp it.

pecmsg, is that like saying, there is no such thing as Dark only the absence of light? Hmmm

I wonder if that guy also subscribes to the inverse theory of light, where light is just the absence of darkness. The proof is the observation that a flashlight can suck in some of the darkness so you can see through it, and when the batteries are used up, you can cut them open, and they're all black inside. :D

That is also true. If you want to get right down to it "dark" and "light" is just a construct put together by our brain from its interpretation of the the visible em spectrum. Dark is the absence of energy in the visible wavelengths.

In GB, anyone who works on a heating system is called an engineer. He could just be an old plumber with silly notions.

Like we’ve never seen that around here.😗
