Evaporator Connection Not What Expected

Hi all, I picked up an evaporator for a wine room application and the TXV connection is not what I expected and I’m confused. Is this a SAE connector and why is it sealed? There are also cotter-like pins around the perimeter. Do I cut this off?

    I never saw one of those. Maybe some type of Chatliff connector

    It's weird - almost like the TXV pierces that metal covering the pipe back to the exchanger. I guess I'll just cut it off and sand off the coating.

    Looks like some sort of quick connect precharged system.

    Before you cut it off, make sure the tubing is a metal and size you can connect to.

    Standard Flair connection. The holes are to alloy moisture to drain rather then break the flair nut. 

    I prefer remove them and use Stay Brite #8 to solder in the x-valve.

    Ah, maybe it's a metal dust cap inside a flare nut?

    Sure looks like a metal: what we call a frost plug inside a typical flare nut. Can you pry it out?
