Radiator Refinishing

This post is more informational and for enjoyment. I recently sent 9 of my radiators out to Metal Man Restoration near NYC where they dipped, sandblasted, pressure tested and recoated my radiators in an epoxy primer with polyurethane coating. All I can say is these babies look great and with only one coat needed I have not noticed any lack of efficiency so far. It's nice to see all the markings and logos now that they arent covered by 8 coats of paint. Not to mention they no longer have lead on them. Enjoy!

Looks great. I did similar to our radiators; sand blast and powder coat.  Finish came out great but had very small section leak on the two largest (5’ and longer). Im sure heating units up to 400 is tough on connections and thinking about doing the spray like yours on four units we added with a recent addition. Hired movers to move in and out. They made it look easy.

  • We offer this service during the summer months. It's a real pain to do this work. But nothing we do makes our customer's faces light up more than when their now-like-new radiators are reinstalled. Especially if they go the custom color route.

I just sent out 7 of my radiators for sandblasting and powder coating. It was a real job carrying them downstairs and transporting them. I brought them to a sandblasting and coating place. I wasn't aware that i could end up with leaks. They're in now and working well - no leaks - am i just lucky? Should i have been more careful?

What kind of paint do you use once they’ve been sandblasted and powder coated?

No issues thus far. I just rebuilt it because the old top had an asbestos transite board stapled underneath.

@mickeylewis123 - Sounds like you're good! As I said issue only occurs on a couple large one and may have been seeping before. I'd have never know with all the crud on them.

For those near Albany, NY, RM Lill, Inc in Castleton-on-Hudson does sandblasting and painting. I took one there yesterday.

Protocol on this web site is to not mention prices, so just call them at (518) 732-7216. You will need to give them an estimate of the size (length, width and height) of the radiator and whether or not you want them to paint it.

Perfect. My bad. I thought you couldn't price something like a job from you to me. Didnt realize we couldn't quote a price we received somewhere else. I appreciate the info! Are you a local plumber in the area?

I'm not sure of the specific restriction, so I could be wrong. I have seen discussions with $$$ in place of number, so I assumed any discussion of cost numbers is not allowed.

We don't allow job price posting because there are too many variables and it could also lead to price fixing. Please call them for an estimate. Thanks!

What I find so very interesting is the variation in design and style that was so common early in the last century. These radiators were works of art unlike what is available today. Real Retro.
