Imagine That

They installed the new boiler and suddenly a condensate tank was required to return the condensate.

I wonder why....

I notice the p'trols aren't protected from steam. Wonder which one will fail first.

    People often say that, but...

How can steam get to them?
Single pipe quasi-vapor system. Typical operating pressure 0.14 - 0.43 oz. EcoSteam ES-20 Advanced Control for Residential Steam boilers. Rectorseal Steamaster water treatment

Steam doesn't fill voids via convection.

I'm betting the Ptrols on the ends will stay cold. The one in the center not sure about, it's kind of close.

My own boiler has two sets of controls, the ones I actually use and care about do not have a pigtail or trap of any kind. Just 18" of vertical pipe with air trapped in it. It gets hot maybe a few inches up and that's it. Most of the 1/2" black iron pipe stays room temp

Really? I seem to recall a few weeks ago people were trying to convince me that my dry return was filling with steam even though it's full of air and pitched downwards, so, apparently, steam can overcome gravity AND an air-filled void to travel some 20 or 30 feet downhill back to the boiler, but it can't rise a few inches to reach the pressuretrol? Fascinating.

I meant back in the day when it was initially installed. It’s not new any longer.

I am sure the condensate tank wasn’t in the bid.

Was the old boiler an old coal unit with a very large steam chest with a very large water content that steamed much slower than the newer boiler?

I also like that jacked up 67.... and no blow down for the lower piping to keep it clear.
