Floating balls on boiler feed water? Ever heard of that?

I was reading a book from Spirax Sarco and it recommended using floating balls in the boiler feed unit to limit the oxygen during long off times like you would see in a brewery. The balls act like a blanket system. It said it will limit the O2 scavenger needed in system. Never heard that before and wanted to see if you ever did.
Thanks

I've heard of it, @RayWohlfarth , but never seen it. No good reason why it wouldn't help, at least a bit. Also cut down on evaporation from the feed tank, if it's hot.

They do that in the reservoirs in the LA area. Not super pertinent, but interesting nonetheless. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uxPdPpi5W4o

Could not the floating balls potentially block the boiler feed tank vent or overflow?

@jsavage I heard they work great to lower the odors
@EBEBRATT-Ed Good point never thought about that

Interesting video. The math suggests they paid $32,000,000 for the balls though. Seems like a very pricey solution.

Newark received $60 million from the EPA to cover the Cedar Grove NJ reservoir with some unknown solution :(

It requires thinking and forethought but venting can be eliminated. What's the good of expelling air and then letting it back in?
