I found this one the other day. It is on a 10 year old significantly over pumped domestic recirc pipe. The pipe ends were reamed and installation looked correct. Not sure what brand fitting.

    It was leaking. The O ring fell out after the cut.

    Velocity must of got that -O- ring. Had to have!?

    The O ring was intact the leak was at the corroded ares concealed by the pipe.

    10 years is fairly young for a failure but like anything else the install is important. I've seen solder joints fail quicker then that...…………….

    It is best practice to not exceed 4 ft/sec through copper piping.
    When it comes to 24/7/365 domestic recirc, particularly with aggressive water, 2 ft/sec or less is a better plan. This building originally had a 3/4 hp close coupled circ. I don't know the exact flow rates but they certainly were greater than 10 ft/sec.

    That looks like a classic case of cavitation corrosion.

    Was it even a viega fitting? Lots of cheap knock offs out there

    Some of the fittings in the building are viega. That fitting did not have a brand stamp.
