Heat recovery from heat pump to heat hot water

I live in Houston, TX with a relatively short heating cycle. Due to propane prices and need to replace some old a/c & heating units, I plan to go back to my original heat pumps set-up. I have (3) units, (2) of which need replacing. I would like to use the recycled heat to heat my hot water tanks. When I talked to a local a/c contractor he acted like I was speaking Russian. Is this not done down here in Texas?

A de-superheater only works in the a/c mode and is of little value.

IDK of any split system manufactures that would approve of that being part their system.

I don’t see you ever getting a payback unless you are a commercial kitchen with large water demand.

Reject heat worked pretty well before double wall was required. Swimming pool got too hot. The OP in Houston can buy air to water heat pump to heat his water. If he installs it indoors he will save money during Houston's long cooling season. During heating season he has to somehow use outside air.
