Do I need to replace by Gas boiler?

Hi,

Last week my boiler stopped working, it had power fine but after turning on the hot water in the thermostat, the boiler would not ignite, the light that normally would have turned on under the flame icon would switch on for a millisecond and nothing would happen. Tried the basic stuff nothing worked and called an engineer. Boiler is 16 years old and knew that sooner or later would call it a day but if it could be fixed easily I had to try, especially given than in these dates the going price to replace the boiler would be much higher due to seasonality.

Guy came home yesterday, said that the flue sealant was gone, water had condensed in the APS and we had to replace the boiler, I asked him if we could not replace the sealant and APS, he said that the boiler was too old and we would not find the pieces but a google search found APS for that boiler. When I told him he said that flues where outdated and could not replace those, made no sense to me because you could replace the sealant but he is the expert, when I asked if we could not change the APS, even knowing that the issue would happen again, but hope that it would last for a few months and replace the whole thing in spring he said no.

Does anyone know if that was a fair assessment or he is pushing for replacing the whole thing because that's where can make the most money?

    Sounds more like a salesman.

    Make and Model of this boiler.

    Maybe a few pictures.

    Get a second opinion

    Sounds like he just wants to sell a new boiler. Chances are if the boiler is not leaking water it can be fixxed to buy you some time. Where are you located? Post your location we may know someone who can help. Also check "find a contractor on this site"

    Sounds like this is in europe somewhere. Also in addition to checking the part that is leaking on the control and fixing it before it leaks again, you can probably make a shield out of a piece of plastic to direct the water away from the control if it leaks.
