I said DHW and later "in homes". If DHW doesn't mean "in homes" then I apologize for the confusion. It looks like it might happen in homes where authorities do something really stupid, or where there is a nuclear disaster, or in one guy's home, except his story is highly suspect.

If that says to you that yes, it happens in people's homes, then OK, but it doesn't say that to me. Over and out.

@WMno57 and @mattmia2 . Yes, people have gotten Legionnaire's from the water — oddly, the preferred way to do that is showering, rather than drinking (it's a respiratory thing, not a stomach thing).

And… yes, the codes do try to protect us from all but the most extreme cases. But I have bad news: no matter how restrictive and detailed you want to make your codes, or how draconian you want your enforcement officers to be…

something is going to get you, sooner or later.

There is a whole range of thinking on how restrictive codes — or other laws — should be or must be, and that is a largely political debate, and people have rather strong opinions on the subject — ranging from extreme "I can take care of myself" to extreme "OMG I'm terrified protect me". Check Ecclesiastes 8:15

And a PS. Don't misunderstand me. A certain level of code or legal restriction is necessary in a society, to protect the fools from their folly, or others from greed or incompetence, but… that's why it's a balancing act.

"I'll let you know if I die of legionnaire's disease"

Will your apparition from the great beyond be more like Casper the Friendly Ghost or Zeke the Plumber.

"Zeke the Plumber has his nose bitten off by a parrot in the Philippines and couldn't smell a gas leak created when he hit a gas pipe while digging a hole. He lights a match, causing an explosion. The only remnant was his toilet plunger that now bears a curse."

Just kidding you John. Congratulations on your new home and beware of parrots!

@WMno57 thank you very much! The point of this post was just me fishing for good wishes anyway. After 24 years living in SoHo in Manhattan, I agreed that a change was necessary. (That request came from his wife)

Yeah, OK, Mark Eatherton's a highly suspect guy. Has been for decades. Dan, hot_rod and many others here will confirm how suspect Mark's stories are. If anyone believes that, I've got a large collection of bridges to sell.

I, personally, have never heard of it being found in a Single family home, although it's certainly possible. Mad Dog

No Bridges for sell..With all due respect and FYI….

Mark which happens to be a good friend of mine was coffing up Blood and allmost Died in the Hospital when he was diagnosed with legionnaires disease by a physician! The labwork came back positive !

Allthough These are isolated events they do happen and it is better to be safe that sorry.

BTW and again FYI :Caleffi and Viega Europe take this subject very serious and have invested large amounts on R&D to combat this awful disease which really can have Devastating effects on people with Autoimmue Disorders, the very young and elderly.😓

I'm not sure exactly how to read that, but, to avoid any confusion, my comment was sarcastic. I've great respect for Mark and the potential for Legionnaire's to occur in residences.

Sorry but nothing in your post indicated that it was sarcasim !

As »i read it« you even reached out to other Wallies for support in trying to discredit Mark.

It would have been better if you would have specified that it was purely Sarcasim !

    Just my observation.

Just trying to clear this up a little. I expressed doubt in a story where someone supposedly contracted and immediately began showing symptoms of Legionnaires disease. The disease takes a few days to exhibit symptoms, that's why I expressed doubt that the shower in question was the cause of it.

Sal responded sarcastically to me somewhat unfairly because I never said that the teller of the story was suspect, just that the story with that particular shower causing the disease was suspect. But I recognized Sal's response being critical of me, not of Mark. Fair enough.

Anyway, let's just all agree that I'm the **** in this story, and I bet that John and everyone else would be happy if Erin would close this thread :)

Works pretty well, we have ran them through a towel bar then to floor and back to heater. Kinda slick, have to separate from the ferrous metals but that's easy with a braze plate. Main thing is John, did you install potable pex and barrier pex. If barrier pex not the best idea, does not have pressure rating nor nsf. If you have a spot for a small braze plate say in a cabinet or hidden alcove you could put separate pump & mini braze plate heat x to deal with it, of course then you have to deal with expansion and fill issue. Not really big issue on the expansion/fill deal as could simplify with a mini exp tank and just manual fill with hose. This would take any legionella ? out of equation also.
