Engineer

Three men went to the guillotine after the French Revolution: a minister, a lawyer and an engineer. The minister was first. The blade hung. He proclaimed it must be divine interdiction, so the tribunal grudgingly agreed to set him free.

The lawyer was next. The blade hung again. He claimed that it would violate the dictate of double execution jeopardy to try again, so the tribunal grudgingly agreed to set him free.

Finally, the engineer was set on the guillotine rack, facing upward per his request. After staring at the mechanism a while as the executioner prepared, he said, "Guys, I think I see what the problem is.".

Somewhere I've read this: An engineer is someone who measures something with a micrometer, marks it with a piece of chalk and cuts it with an ax.

    That was funny

    That was predictable.

As an engineer, I've always had a visceral understanding that, if my aptitude and abilities for hands-on work were greater than they are for calculating and analyzing, I'd have been a technician instead. Relying on the experience of those who've been technicians a long time is the hallmark of a smart engineer. Just like the most intelligent newly commissioned military officers listen to grizzled sargeants.

@Sal Santamaura I have tremendous respect for engineers. I cannot do what they do and I admire how they can look at numbers and formulas every day. Would drive me crazy

I knew when the post headline just said "engineer", that it would be something funny, or at least a shake your head post.
