Brian, Dragon and Henry spent the last week replacing the steam boiler at The Tiffany, an 8-Story apartment building at 16th and U St. NW. it was built in 1924 and has a one-pipe steam heating system.
The old Weil-McLain had rotted out and was leaking flue products into the boiler room.

We went back with a Crown 24 1.8M BTU with a Beckett power gas burner. We would typically use a Power Flame but 8 week lead time has all but eliminated them from replacement work.
The system was controlled by a wall mounted thermostat in the second floor hallway. We replaced that with a tekmar 279 with indoor feedback.0 -
Finished product. Brian and Henry went back last Saturday to do the start up and dial in the burner.1

One of the 4” mains dips under a concrete beam. It was not properly dripped creating horrendous water hammer. Brian re-piped this drip. Rather than use an F&T, he went old school and piped a loop seal. It is now quiet as a church mouse.2

Power Flame makes nothing for stock as far as I know. I used to be a rep for them. 6-8 weeks is normal for them. Looks nice. Hopefully boiler water content will not be an issue.
With a vertical building like that it should be fine condensate will come back quickly.
Looks like the old boiler never got cleaned1 -

Does anyone else think that looks a lot like a Burnham V9-series boiler with a different jacket? All Steamed Up, Inc.

Steamhead, the Crown 24 is the same as the Burnham V-9. Same casting.0

@Dan Foley Thanks so much for your posts and your articles. It was one of the few ways I could learn about steam and hydronic boilers. I don't know alot about welding or commercial installs but why does the drop header have what looks like a welded cap tee instead of just elbow?0
