So the plumber just left. He replaced both pressuretrols, and replaced the clogged pigtails with brass ones that he says won't clog.

He must have had a boat payment coming due

Labor was only $. He was here 2 hours, including the time to go get the parts. He also cleaned out my plugged up boiler drain. Good guys.

So what did he set your new controls at for PSI?

I think he copied them from the old units, though I think he didn't do it quite right, as the boiler shuts down before reaching the thermostat set point. It took about 2 hours to bring the room up to 74 from 67, it would normally take 30-45 minutes.
    I will be calling him.

Two hours for a seven degree setback? That's quite reasonable. 30 to 45 minutes for that much setback suggests a wildly oversize heating plant -- both boiler and radiators.

The active pressuretrol should be set to cutin at about 0.5 and cutout at about 1.5. On a very long run it is likely that the boiler will shut off on pressure from time to time; this is normal.

Just for the record, my (perhaps overly) snarky comment was not aimed at how much time he spent, nor his hourly rate (which you should edit out of your reply since it's against site rules to discuss job pricing), but was rather aimed at the idea that both pressuretrols were in a failed state in need of replacement.

And I agree with Jamie that nothing sounds wrong about that setback recovery for a typically-controlled system.
