"Pick your installer carefully!" - Toronto

First off, this is a fantastic forum! - thank you to everyone who contributes!

One of the many things I've learnt through reading the posts is that "the installer is more important than the make of boiler".

Given this, I'm going to ask for advice please.

I live in the Beaches area of Toronto - it's a big house, built in 1939. The previous owners installed a Viessman Vitola 200 VB2 with a Vitotronic 200 controller and a Vitocell 300 indirect-fired hot water storage tank. It's all operated by a Riello burner. There's a lot of demand on the system, including floor heating throughout much of the house.

We moved in 5 years ago, just as our second child was being born, and have had no end of trouble with the boiler/burner since! We ended up replacing the Riello burner 3 years back, but the whole system has begun failing again & so we're back to cold showers :)

It's time to get a new boiler.

I'd be grateful for the names of any installers in Toronto that people think highly of and can recommend.

Thanks!

Not many outfits in Toronto still interested in HHW for houses. There's one outfit in Yellow Pages that says they're specialists.
First thing to do is to segregate DHW from heating system and install stand alone water heater.

Fifty years ago Speedy Plumbing; Century Plumbing; & Blue Flame Heating were all excellent.

That's a good boiler and it probably just needs someone who knows what to do.

    Try the contractor locator above.

Thanks Jumper and Ironman! Unfortunately, the contractor locator doesn't seem to work for Canada :(

Jumper, I'm wondering if you might be able to PM me the outfit you have seen in the Yellow Pages?

    Thanks again!

Are your problems related to the burner only, or are there other issues?

There was an error rendering this rich post.

I think it's related just to the burner - unfortunately, we've been told that this particular Viessmann model only functions with a particular Riello burner.
  • Give Viessmann a call. They will probably know of contractors near you. Great boilers!
