Cyclegard woes

I have pretty much had it w/ the std probe type low water cutoffs that came w/ many packaged boilers. The critical time you are trying to make steam it "takes a break"... Is the safeguard 450 a straight swap out to the CG450?
Thanks.

Yes it is. can’t stand the cycle guard too. I must of over 50 of them in stock from the boiler installs I’ve done over the past year.

Yep, and the probe is the same so you don't even have to drain the boiler.

I wish there was a good way to disable the "psycho-guard" feature after the boiler gets a proper cleaning.

If you have 50 of them build a small trebuchet and fire them on the roof of 126 Bailey Road, North Haven, CT 06473. ;)
You can have it good, fast or cheap. Pick two

Of course the boiler Mfg is really the "culprit"... They spec them out. I guess We need to start complaining to them.

    I'd easily rather a MM 67 over a cycleguard.

Single pipe quasi-vapor system. Typical operating pressure 0.14 - 0.43 oz. EcoSteam ES-20 Advanced Control for Residential Steam boilers. Rectorseal Steamaster water treatment

I figured out how to disable the intermittent "Test" mode on the CG-450-1560. It requires soldering in a short jumper wire on the circuit board. I verified it on my workbench and confirmed that all regular LWCO features remains fully functional. Is it safe to post the modification here?

I could easily add a $3 toggle switch to disable or enable the Test mode, depending upon the quality of the boiler water.

I just swapped mine for a Safgard too! I would just have people PM you instead of posting it here to be safe. I still have my cyclegard so I could use the instructions to mod it and keep as a back up. Can you send to amitjm1980@gmail.com?

And quite a few other models and brands actually.

Maybe run that by the manufacture before changing the design of a Safety Device!

@pecmsg - I agree with you. I will not post the mod. Replacing the Cyclegard with the corresponding Safgard is the proper approach if the intermittent on/off anti-foam cycling isn't necessary on your system.

Better yet.... can we get a trade in program? Return the Psycho-gaurd for a Safe guard? I would certainly like to know how to modify it.

We may need to rethink our dislike for the Cyclegard. At least for those who have over-sized steam boilers, which is a good portion of the steam market. One of the Steam Pros did some assessment on the Cyclegard and posted here (see Link Below) and that suggests that the Cyclegard reduced boiler output by about 10%. That's a decent start to taming an over sized boiler. It may not be enough but coupled with extra good main venting, maybe some down firing, and/or a two stage gas valve, it could bring a boiler into a reasonable range, until it is replaced.
