Loss of boiler capacity due Cycle Guard

Options
Spent some time today on a troublesome job that was running short on steam. On of the things we tested was the loss of BTU's due to the operation of the factory Cycle Guard CG 450 1560. The operation of the control knocks down the boiler capacity about 10%, yet it doesn't appear the manufacturer's that use or require these have adjusted the rated gross outputs of their boilers. Just a warning to those that using boilers that use these controls.... you may need to account for the the reduced available gross output of the boilers when the Cycle Guard is required by the manufacturer because the published gross output ratings may not be correct.

Which also means that if an installers makes the output adjustment, when sizing a boiler, that boiler will be 10% over-sized when a different LWCO is installed.
Having said that, for someone who has an over-sized boiler, I guess installing a Cyclegard may help with down sizing.

I actual observe this all the time, since 90% of steam boilers are over-sized. The Pyscho-Gard helps regulate the pressure! Perverse, but true...

They do suck but I think the boiler manafactures that have them on the boilers are having less calls for surging and short cycling being the control barely lets the system get up to pressure and being it doesn’t do tnt I have noticed that just bout every system that has them does not suffer from what I call end of the cycle short cycling it never happens cause you hardly every build pressure . On another note I do believe on larger boiler 5 section and up they serve one propose which is aside from making sure the water line is not titled it also lets some condensate possibly return being I have ran into a few boiler who s water content on larger system does not give enough run time before she s off on low water just thought but of course there always the thought of adding a resouiviur tank to make up for lower boiler water content which is a issue I see fairly often seems most are more then will to live with then rather pay for a tank n they often are non believers peace and good luck clammy
