Header Confusion
New England SteamWorks

Ran into this boiler that wasn't functioning very well. The two supply mains are each 2-1/2". At least the header piping shows a certain amount of creativity?

This one wasn't going to be easy. To begin with, they put the boiler in the wrong spot. If a decent header was ever going to be built and connected properly to the mains, the boiler was going to have to move. Ugh.
Now what?

I say see if you can raise those risers up so you can put a nice drop header in. I wouldn't mind seeing that Hartford loop raised just a bit also. The bottom of it looks like it's pretty close to the bottom of the boiler. Nothing like a little bit more water in the boiler if there were a leak in the wet return and the LWCO were to fail, but that's just me anticipating a "worse case" scenario. Is there a skim port anywhere on there? On the back side maybe?Paul48 said:I don't know..........I kinda liked the orgasmatron

Talk about making a silk purse out of a sows ear...nice job. I like the remnants of the old coal bin next to it. It's like a bridge across time.0

Looks great! I'm not a pro but have a question on the vapor stat and gauge setup: i don't see a pigtail but see a modified loop with black pipe. This setup removes the need of a pigtail obviously?0

Thank you. And yes, with the added benefit of a larger pipe diameter making a clog less likely.hboogz said:Looks great! Awesome. Any special requirements you implement? Close nipples to form the loop? First time I'm seeing that setup, looks great.0
